Do Rubber Soles Protect against Electricity?

If you find yourself on a work site with dangers of electrical hazards, you need to be properly prepared. Rubber outsoles on your work boots will help shield you, but you need to make sure of a few things before you risk it.

Your boots should have the proper CSA certification. If you see this symbol on the boots, then the Canadian Standards Association has declared them to be protective of electrical dangers.

The rubber outsoles on boots with this symbol will protect you, but only if they are intact. If your boots start to maintain damage in any degree to the outsoles, it may be worth repairing or replacing them. Be sure to check your boots regularly to ensure they are whole and undamaged so as to keep yourself safe from shock.

Finally, the rubber outsoles must be just that. If the outsole is not made of %100 rubber, there will be places that electricity can get in and pose a risk to your safety.
